Bachchan Family Wants to buy stakes in IPL Franchise
Bachchan family could very well add star factor in the Indian Premier League as a report has suggested that the family has shown interest in buying stakes in Rajasthan Royals.
Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan could very soon be adding the star factor in the Indian Premier League’s franchise Rajasthan Royals as a report in The Times of Indiasuggests that the Bachchan family has shown interest in the T20 league. As per the report, they first approached Chennai Super Kings and later approached one-time champion Rajasthan Royals. “Yes, Abhishek (Bachchan) met Manoj Badale in London some time ago,” Ramesh Pulapaka, CEO of AB Corp, was quoted as saying by The Times of India.
Last week, a report in PTI had also suggested the owners of the franchise are looking forward to selling half of their stakes in the franchise and Bachchans’ interest in the getting stakes in the franchise further confirms the news. Should Bachchans purchase a part of Rajasthan Royals, they will become second Bollywood celebrity to buy a stake in this franchise. Earlier, Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty and her husband Raj Kundra held stakes in the franchise before giving them up in 2015.
Presently, the Bachchan family is associated with Indian Super League and Pro Kabaddi league. They have their share in ISL franchise Chennaiyin FC while Abhishek Bachchan is the owner of PKL franchise Jaipur Pink Panthers. With other parties also interested for a stake in Rajasthan Royals, it remains to be seen how things go down and if the Bachchan family buys the stake in the franchise.
Rajasthan Royals is one of the franchises that has been part of the T20 league right from the inception. Based out of Jaipur, Rajasthan Royals emerged out as the champion of the T20 league in the inaugural edition of the league.
In 2015, the franchise suspended for a period of two years along with Chennai Super Kings and both the franchises made their comebacks in IPL 2018, also qualifying for the second round. CSK went onto the IPL trophy for the third time.
