T-Series reunites with BR Studios for Bhoothnath
Among other joint productions, one will be the on lines of Bareilly Ki Barfi (2017) and another will be directed by Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi (2018) director Mudassar Aziz.
T-Series is set to collaborate with BR Studios again on a slew of projects after Bhoothnath Returns (2014). The two production houses are now lining a third film in the franchise. Among other joint productions, one will be the on lines of Bareilly Ki Barfi (2017), that was co-produced BR Studios, and another will be directed by Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi (2018) director Mudassar Aziz.
During a group interview for Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi, director Aziz had talked about doing a film outside the Colour Yellow Productions banner, producers of the Happy Bhag Jayegi series.
Aziz said, “I’m very excited to work with BR Studios. Creatively, I’m very charged because I’m attempting to make humour in a place where social stigma has long been existing, it’s almost inherent in our system. So, it’s a first social-comedy for me.” Aziz didn’t reveal any other details, but ruled out directing the third film in the Bhoothnath franchise.
Commenting on the association, Bhushan Kumar, T-Series head honcho, said in a statement, “We had a great synergy with BR Studios when we worked on Bhoothnath Returns a few years ago. Creatively, it was a very satisfying collaboration to work in this film starring Amitji [Amitabh Bachchan]. Even the music of Bhoothnath Returns proved to be a chartbuster. We are excited to take this creative partnership with BR Studios further with our next lot of films.”
“The revival of our banner has shaped up well with Bareilly Ki Barfi and Ittefaq (2017). Taking the legacy forward, we are now looking at bringing more such interesting stories to the audience in the future. With Bhushanji and T-Series on board this journey, we are looking forward to a fruitful association for the Bhoothnath franchise and the other films,” said Juno Chopra of BR Studios.
The Bhoothnath franchise has Amitabh Bachchan playing a ghost. The first instalment Bhoothnath (2008) was directed by Vivek Sharma. While Dangal (2016) director Nitesh Tiwari wrote the screenplay and helmed the second film, titled Bhoothnath Returns (2014). The director of the third film has not been announced yet.
BR Studios and T-Series are expected to make the announcements in October.
Founded by later filmmaker, producer BR Chopra, the production house revived last year after it co-produced films like Bareilly Ki Barfi and Ittefaq.
